We can look at the changing seasons each year to know that nothing lasts forever. Life consists of cycles and seasons. The Bible tells us there is a season for everything, but we also know that no season lasts forever. In today’s video, learn 5 signs God may be moving you in a new direction and into a new season.
READ TODAY’S VIDEO:
We can look at the changing seasons each year to know that nothing lasts forever. Life consists of cycles and seasons. Ecclesiastes 3:1 makes this clear.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV)
Ecclesiastes 3 then goes on to describe different types of seasons one may experience. A season of joy and a season of mourning. A season of war and a season of peace. A season of building up and a season of tearing down. There is a season for everything, but no season lasts forever. I want to focus on not each season we may face, but the transition from one season to another. In today’s video, I’m sharing 5 signs God may be moving you in a new direction.
- Doors are closing.
The first sign is that opportunities that you once had are closing. When I left my job at the Department of State to stay home with my daughter, I didn’t think being a stay-at-home mom was a full season I would stay in for a while. Once I started to look for jobs to get back to work again, every door shut in my face. Opportunities I knew I was qualified for, or more than qualified for, were rejecting my applications. I wasn’t even getting that many interviews. As I settled down from my search to seek God about the matter, He revealed to me that the transition to being a stay-at-home mom was long-term and my season of traditional work was over for the time being.
It reminds me of Jonah who God called to preach to the Ninevites, but decided to go in another direction. You may have heard the story in Sunday school. Every step he took out of alignment to God’s will was met with opposition and consequence until he was swallowed by a whale. Don’t get me wrong, opposition and closed doors don’t always mean we shouldn’t go in that direction, and we will discuss that later in this video. But sometimes God will use those closed doors to push you in a new direction. Areas where you once had favor, He will remove to adjust your path toward His final will.
2. There is no room for growth.
The second sign God may be moving you in a new direction is that you are outgrowing the season you are in. Just like my kids outgrow their clothes and I have to get new clothes, our outgoing on one season may mean we need to move into a new one.
We go through this type of transition all the time with Beloved. Most recently, as we’ve grown, it became apparent we would need to update the Beloved Women app to meet the needs of our growing audience. Now, this was a leap of faith because app development already costs a lot of money, and upgrading costs even more, but we got to a point that if we were to stay where we were, we wouldn’t be able to grow. So if you find yourself in a season where there is nothing left for you to grow or learn, that may be a sign God is transitioning you to a new level or season.
3. God’s provision moves.
The third sign God may be moving you in a new direction is that God’s provision has moved. I think of the Prophet Elijah who God called to hide by a brook, while God miraculously provided for Elijah. (1 Kings 17:1-7) As the time came for Elijah to transition to a new season, the brook ran dry and God told Elijah to go live with a widow and her son and that God would then provide for Elijah there. (1 Kings 17:8) Sometimes God will take away His provision in one season, to push you into the next because He knows how comfortable we can get, and how we like things to stay the same. Sometimes being uncomfortable is the only way we’ll be motivated to make a move.
When my husband and I moved to North Carolina from Maryland, we stayed in an apartment, but we wanted to buy our own house. When we sat down and looked at all the finances, we concluded there was no way we would be able to buy a home any time soon. So we just let the idea go. Soon after that, I remember getting into bed one night and God placing the desire on my heart for a new home and to pray about it. So I prayed, “God if this is your will, please make it happen.” Other than that, I had no intention of taking any steps towards getting a house. So I prayed that prayer and went to bed.
Now my husband was working night shift, so I woke up that morning when I heard him come into the apartment. In my half-waken state, when I heard the door open, I also heard the heaviest rain I’ve ever heard in my life. I thought to myself “I’m so glad Donald made it home safe because it’s raining really hard.” Then all I heard was Donald scream “Christina.” I jumped up out of my bed and opened my bedroom door, and there was water gushing from the ceiling. It looked like the Amazon rainforest in our apartment. There was water everywhere except my bedroom, which by the way, my daughter came in my room that night, so she wasn’t in her room that flooded also. The apartment above ours had a pipe burst and the water flooded our entire apartment. We could not live there anymore. Now that pushed us to reevaluate our home search and we found a house that we were able to afford. If it were not for that flood, we would have stayed at the apartment. But God was transitioning us. We learned a very valuable lesson: As God moves you, His provision goes with you.
4. You are afraid.
The fourth sign God may be moving you in a new direction is that you are afraid. Fear can represent a lack of trust in God, but because we’re usually afraid of change, fear may be a sign you are in a transitioning season. Now we don’t give into fear. We push forward anyway because that is what God calls us to do. Before Joshua was called to transition God’s people from wilderness living to conquering the land God promised them, what did God tell Joshua?
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 ESV)
When I am afraid of stepping out, I know that sometimes means I need to make that move because it then serves as an opportunity to be strong and courageous and build my faith muscle. God will intentionally move us in a direction to do something or be something that we know we can’t do to develop our faith.
Almost every time the seasons change, and I live in North Carolina where you could experience 4 seasons in one day, my children’s allergies start to act up. The weather and pollen changes trigger an allergic reaction, so I make sure we’re ready to take all the necessary precautions during those times.
Fear is like our allergic reaction to the seasons changing. It doesn’t mean don’t go in a new direction, but that as we take steps from one season to another, while trusting God, our fear will eventually be replaced with faith.
5. God told you to.
The final sign God is moving you in a new direction is that God told you to do it. He’s told you to make a certain move. Now we might hesitate in fear and disobedience because we don’t know how it will work out, or we just don’t want to do it, but not every move needs some miraculous sign in the sky. Honestly, most will not.
Still, we will look for all kinds of signs and confirmation before we move when God has already told us what to do. So we’re waiting on God for a sign and He’s waiting on us to obediently do the last thing He told us to do. If God said go, then that’s the only sign you need because where God guides, He provides.
Now I’d love to hear from you Beloved. Let me know are you set in the season you are in or do you feel God moving you in a new direction? Let’s encourage one another in the comments.

Thank you for the encouraging words in: 5 Signs God is Moving You in a New Direction.
Several months ago, when my husband, who is retired, announced that he wanted to move out of California but was not sure where he wanted to move to, I started looking around at different states and cities. We had moved from Oregon to California several years ago, so first I looked at housing prices in Oregon in the city we had moved from, and the housing prices were so high in that city that moving back there was just not possible. I looked at other cities and states, places we had never been to before, just trying to get a sense of a nice city and state to retire in, then several weeks into my looking around I felt that God wanted us to consider moving to Oklahoma as He had all of a sudden put Oklahoma on my mind. My relatives on my dad’s side live there, and as kids we were always there visiting our grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and we always had a fun time, fishing, etc., and home prices are considerably lower than both California and Oregon. However, the first thing my husband said to that was a resounding NO because all he could think of was that Oklahoma has tornadoes and he wanted nothing to do with that kind of weather. I told him that all of my family has lived there their whole lives and tornadoes have never been a problem for them, but he didn’t care. So, at first, we argued about it because he was so adamant not to even consider it, THEN I finally started praying about it and asking God to lead us to where He wanted us to move to and live and if Oklahoma was what He desired for us then I asked if He would please put it into Chris’s heart to consider it. My Oklahoma relatives started praying about it too as they were absolutely ecstatic when I told them and very much want us to move there. God answered our prayers as a few months later my husband decided he would fly out to Oklahoma, stay with my cousins, and look around. My cousins happily took him everywhere, he had a very nice time, and he was pleasantly surprised at how pretty it is in the city they live in, Stillwater, and he said it reminded him of South Carolina where he grew up, and so he said he would consider moving to Oklahoma and I was thrilled and of course so were my relatives. All of this took place within the last several months. But recently I have been on again, off again, seized with fear, panic attacks, depression, and doubt about moving there. You see my sister and her husband live here in California, about 20 minutes from us, and my sister and I are best friends. My mom lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho. When our mom took ill a few years ago we both immediately drove out to Idaho Falls to be with her until she recovered. Fear is now gripping me about being far away from my sister and my mom. I know this fear is not of God and I keep praying and asking God when I am gripped with this fear to please forgive me for letting it grip me and to please fill me with His peace and He does until I am side swiped and gripped with the fear, depression, and anxiety again. Like I mentioned it is off and on. The other times I am for the most part excited about the possibility of moving to Oklahoma and being near my grandma (she is 101 years old), and my aunts, uncles, and cousins and their children and grandchildren. I am continually praying for God to lead my husband and I to where He wants us to move to and live and that we will know and obey His will for our lives. I feel God led me to your article as everything I am feeling and thinking, wow it is right there in your article. So, thank you. If you have time and can or want to reply, it would be much welcomed. Very Kindest Regards, Mrs. Jackson

Thank you for this article. I wasn’t sure if a change was on the way or not. You answered some questions for me. I’m concern was my career. I feel like I have out grown it and I don’t have anything to learn. There is no more room for growth. And, I like to learn new task along the way. I ask for more responsibility at work but my boss doesn’t ever seem to want to train me on anything new. I hope this is a sign that I will be changing to a more fulfilling career because I want to make a difference. Once again Thank you.
